OUR MISSION:
To produce graduates who will impact the
world for the cause of Jesus Christ.
In 1969 Paul Hanson and Gail Mosness were married in Seattle. They soon responded to God's call on their lives - to Himself and to a life of ministry. During their last year of college they began attending a little church near the Canadian border that supported missionaries in Mexico. After church services Paul became captivated by the photos of a Mexican Bible school that were taped on a bulletin board in the back of the church. He wept unashamedly... the first tears his wife ever remembered seeeing him shed. In 1971 they arrived to this southern border town with their baby, Joel, and Paul began teaching for BISD in the Migrant School. Their dream was to be self supporting, and work every evening and on weekends south of the border, somehow trying to bless the people that Paul had come to love. Their Pastor, Elwin Grundy, was awakened at 3 a.m. one morning with a Word from God - "Start a Christian high school". He asked Paul to help him but he and Gail really weren't interested. They didn't really like the idea of Christian education, plus, they were heading south. Then a few months later on the way to school, on Hortencia Avenue, Paul stopped to buy candy for his students. As he pulled out of a little store, he heard a voice. He had been praying about the pastor's request and the voice said, "It is for this purpose that I brought you to Brownsville". The voice was strong, audible, loving, and undeniable. It was God. So, that is how they ended up establishing Valley Christian High School. It has been over thirty-eight years of laboring together - pouring all their heart and strength into answering God's call. Paul had amazing perseverance, faith and health - never going to the hospital, never missing a day of school. Paul's question had always been - 'what would it be like to have a school that genuinely follows the Holy Spirit in all of its decisions.... with Christian teachers and Christian students... college preparatory but with the ultimate goal of raising up a generation to impact the world for the cause of Christ?' We are seeing the answer to that question. On Saturday morning, April 9th, 2011 - Paul was out running with his beloved students when he instantly found himself in the presence of the Savior whom he loved and served and the angels that he always hoped to see here on earth. Paul's last words while cheering on his students as they rounded the bend were "Go Valley Christian" -and so we are.
Valley Christian High School offers the finest in Christian education. In recent years, in conjunction with the University of Texas at Brownsville we have also begun to offer dual-enrollment courses in algebra and computer science. These courses give the student an opportunity to get a head start on their college career while at the same time fulfilling their high school requirements. Coupled with our standard curriculum this makes Valley Christian High School the optimal learning environment. Our small classes and caring teachers ensure that your child will get the personal attention he or she deserves. Every teacher is an active Christian and our approach to learning is based on Christian principles. For this reason Valley Christian High School graduates are prepared both academically and spiritually to go into the world and make a difference for Jesus Christ.
